Jagex’s New Browser MMORPG Transformers Universe to be Released in 2013

Jagex, makers of the immensely popular MMORPG Runescape, have opened up beta sign-ups for their upcoming browser MMO game Transformers Universe. Those who wish to participate in the beta testing of the game can register at the official website.

As you would probably expect, the gameplay seems to consist of the Decepticons and Autobots fighting each other. The game is due to be released in 2013. Details are scant at this time but Jagex is not to be underestimated. Their most well-known game, Runescape (RS), is one of the world’s most played browser MMORPGs and (according to the Guiness Book of World Records) has the most number of players in the world. RS was first launched in 2001 which makes UK-based Jagex one of the oldest and most successful MMO gaming companies today.

The upcoming browser-based action MMO will allow players to pick a side – the noble Autobots or the evil Decepticons. Players can then create their own customizable robot character. The robots in the game have different classes and abilities. For example, Brawlers are good melee fighters with high resilience.

In terms of story, the MMO takes place in the Transformers: Prime universe. This is the same setting and timeline seen in the Transformers War for Cybertron game, Transformers Exodus novel, and Transformers Prime tv show. Basically, the Decepticons and Autobots are intelligent alien robot lifeforms that have arrived Earth and are now battling each other for dominance. Players will be able to interact with iconic characters like Megatron and Optimus Prime in the game.
